Defend Your Mind listen

I could fill these pages with woe and sorrow about my life
How it cuts me like a knife
That the only diversion I can find
Are the going to the supermarket kind
That all I do is eat, sleep, study and workout,
That all I’m about is being beautiful
That I feel like a check that has been voided and null
Useless
That it’s just my life and I should get used to this
But I refuse
I don’t care whose listening
But I resent the words telling me that I’m just a flea
On God’s time clock
Cuz let me say even if I’m only a millisecond on his stopwatch
I’m gonna make sure
That my life wasn’t just a blur
But a definite moment in time
I’m gonna show people what I stood for
I’m gonna write so you know tonight is your night
It could either make you or break you
And when this poem’s thru
It’s gonna stick to you like superglue
That type that never comes off
You’ll be finding pieces of this poem in your dreams
And you’ll remember this teacher –slash- queen
And the lean she put on the microphone
Because my message ain’t made of styrofoam
And it won’t leave you home alone
I’m gonna tell you to watch the words running around in your head
That make you lie in one of two beds
Life or death
So with every single breath I say
You better defend your mind
On the words and thoughts that make you dine
At the banquet table of the dying
When a voice tells you, “you’re worthless”
You tell it to get out!
I don’t care if you have to dance on your head and shout
But I’m telling you my brothers and sisters
That the mind’s whisper
Is where action first begins
And if you let negatively infiltrate in
It’ll cause a pattern
That’ll take you round and round again
Until you stop and listen
And cut off those thoughts at the beginning
Because there is no power of any other kind
That can compete with the control you have over your mind.
